History and Lore [1]
The Beginning
Eon began as an unimpressive stretch of land, and was inhabited only by a mere smattering of dragons that made their journeys alone. Standing divided, they were weak and easily fell prey to Death's hungry scythe; as such, in order to survive, they eventually banded together to form small clans that developed over the years. There was one particular clan that stood out, for it was by far the largest clan that existed then, with enough members to form a small city:
The Sikka Clan.
It was thriving, its numbers ceaselessly increasing. By promising protection and food to whoever joined their ranks, the Sikka Clan managed to effectively recruit more than half the population on Eon, and with so much manpower, an underground city was eventually built. It was home to many, and a symbol of their success ― one that they didn't expect would, within a century of its construction, would be imperiled by a creature from the most feared of places.
A place shrouded by mystery, only two things were known about the Land Deep Under:
One ― that it was called the Oblivion: A name capable of silencing whole crowds and striking fear into the bravest of hearts.
And two ― that it was not a place one could simply find when they wished to, nor a place one could walk out of alive, for in there dwelt your worst nightmares with the power to reduce worlds to merely ash on rising smoke.
And it was from this very place came a creature that, with its arrival, started a reign of tyranny.
The Phantom's Arrival
It fled from the Oblivion its prison at a greatly weakened state, for its escape had come with a sacrifice. In order to slip past the barriers set by the Gods centuries ago, it'd had to give up most of its power to weaken its presence significantly; but as a result, it now needed a magic and mind power to sustain itself, or it would die and be returned to the very place it had escaped from. Yet, even with power a fraction of what it once possessed, it could wipe out the entire Sikka Clan within minutes.
With the threat of the destruction of the Sikka Clan's carefully built existence, the leaders had no choice but to accept the Phantom's demand to accept and worship it as their God. To those that lived in ignorance, the Phantom was a benevolent being that chased away intruders and gave blessings; to those who did not, it was a nightmare and a curse cast upon them all.
For it had come with one more demand.
It told them, "Give me one of your daughters every time one is crowned Deeogon, and let me meld with them, or I shall bring your destruction."
Deeogons of the Sikka Clan had immense magic capacity, which would be at its prime on its user's hundredth birthday ― as such, every female, upon turning a century old, would have their powers tested in a series of continuous trials. The one whose magic took longest to burn out would be crowned the Deeogon, and would hold that title until their fourth hundredth birthday. Until then, they would use their powers to help out the Clan in every way possible.
Because of this, the Phantom would claim every single Deeogon to itself, and drain her dry of her powers and what made her, her.
It did not take long for the Sikka Clan leaders to find out what the Phantom was doing, but could not do anything about it, only could helplessly hand over generation after generations of Deeogons, guilt crushing their hearts.
The Phantom watched their struggle with amused eyes.
The Two Sisters
And then came a time with two sisters. Their differences were little, but the smallest of advantages meant everything, so in the end, it was Athena who Daydris ― their father and current leader of the Sikka Clan ― focused on, and he cast the other sibling aside. Because he knew the younger one was free spirited and would rebel against his decision, he cleverly, cunningly manipulated one sister into thinking the other was jealous of her, effectively driving the two apart. This would prevent the rejected one from distracting the soon-to-be Deeogon.
The younger one Aphrodite was especially distant ― not out of jealousy, as Daydris had led the other to believe, but rather because she had found and was seeing a potential mate in private, and planned to run away. In order to reduce her pain from the inevitable separation from her sister, she had distanced herself, not wishing to bring so much grief upon herself when the time came.
While the Phantom's mind was already merged with Athena's (in order to start draining the latter), it was still possible for it to detach part of itself to observe whoever it pleased ― and so watched the rejected sister, wondering what she was up to when she kept disappearing from home. When it found out what exactly Aphrodite was doing, it was furious ― not a single one was to leave the Sikka Clan! That was stated in the prayers itself; that those of the Sikka Clan would never defect, never run away.
Yet here Aphrodite was.
It wondered how to kill her, for it knew that with her nature, it would be impossible to dissuade her. Detaching part of itself to discuss with Daydris, it eventually came to an agreement with the clan leader to anger Athena, where it would take advantage of her blind fury to kill Aphrodite. Tensions had been running high between the Athena and Daydris anyway; Athena had never really agreed with her father's brutal methods, and in return, Daydris had never liked how soft his daughter was. An argument would be easy to make.
So the plan was carried out the next day, with Athena being unaware of it all, until she was brought back to her senses by her sister's blood warming her hands, and she saw Daydris's smirk. At the same time, she came to the realisation that there had been a being attached to her mind this whole time, because in controlling her emotions, the Phantom had revealed its presence; pinning it down mentally, she nearly killed it by sapping almost all its energy.
The connection between them, formed by the Phantom itself, allowed a one-way transfer: The stronger would absorb the weaker's strength, and Athena, in her overwhelming fury and grief, easily overpowered the Phantom, which had grown complacent since the beginning of its worship and had allowed its powers to deteriorate.
Desperate to prevent its death, it ripped a hole in time and space and whirled away, bringing Athena with it into another realm.
Her Return
Eventually, after journeying across two different worlds, Athena fell into a trap in the second. She had believed Daydris had set up another clan in the new world she was in, and sought to hunt him down in revenge for aiding the Phantom with her sister's murder; yet it had only been an illusion, hiding a portal that threw her back to Eon, along with her newfound companions in each realm: A friend and a mate, Storm and Ayato.
It was there where the Goddess cast her a holy blade and she sank it through the Phantom's head, thus ending its reign of terror. However, its final breath formed a curse that opened a portal into the Land Deep Within: Oblivion.
And more destruction was to come, a battle between good and evil lasting til today.
Oblivion's Escape
With heavy enchantments placed on the walls by the Gods themselves, it was impossible to destroy them. There were no gates, and the monsters behind would stay trapped forever, or so the Gods had thought.
The Portal that the Phantom had created found and manipulated loopholes that the Gods hadn't been aware of. Sure, the walls weren't broken ― rather, the Portal had formed within the walls itself, and the monsters of Oblivion easily travelled out.
And the Gods were forbidden from intervening.
Everything had consequences ― that was their first lesson. As Gods, they had a lot of power and responsibility on their hands, and as such would have to bear a heavier punishment for any mess-ups. So this was the punishment that all of the Gods received for their carelessness: To observe, helpless, as Eon fell under their watch, their name forever blackened in the books as the most careless deities.
Ironic as it was, they could only pray, despite being Gods themselves. But there would be no one to hear them, and they could only hope that Eon's citizens were cunning and adaptable enough to survive.
Oblivion's creatures had first targeted the Sikka Clan, having scented strong traces of its fellow monster the Phantom there. Daydris was the leader then, and the scheming reptile made a contract with them. If they aided in world domination and found his daughter Athena for him, Daydris would allow the monsters to rule alongside him, and slaughter whoever they pleased.
The contract was signed with blood.
However, they took control of Daydris's body immediately afterwards. Technically, they would be fulfilling their side of the contract ― with enhanced senses and numbers on its side, it would easily be able to locate Athena, as well as aid in world domination by luring dragons over and corrupting them (taking over their body and controlling their minds).
After all, mere wisps of ashy darkness like them wouldn't be able to do much in a fight, besides cast magic. What better than to have a vessel and land physical blows as well?
Their numbers grew, and the Sikka Clan was soon big enough to form a Tribe, now known as the Ice Tribe. It was now enough of a threat that all the other clans took notice, and banded together to form Tribes to combat the invading darkness.
Light. Shadow.
Air. Ice.
Which side will you join, the good or the evil? Would you rather be a normal citizen, content to watch the higher-ups try to maintain the Tribe? Or will you be one of those higher-ups and play your part in defending Eon against evil?
Would you perhaps be part of the invading forces?
Or a rogue with no alliances?
It's all up to you.
